Morocco's Dog Horrific Cull ahead of 2023 FIFA World cup

300,000 street dogs are killed every year in Morocco.

300,000 street dogs are killed every year in Morocco.

They are brutally killed by individuals working on behalf of the Government.  However, ever since FIFA made its announcement that Morocco would co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal, the inhumane and barbaric killing has increased

The dogs are shot and poisoned, causing a painful and lingering death.

Dogs are also being caught with ‘tong-like’ implements, which have a painful debilitating effect, before being flung into vehicles with other terrified animals, where they are then taken to facilities to be inhumanely killed.

All three practices are rightly banned in most countries of the world.

Yet, they appear to be condoned by FIFA – which has repeatedly IGNORED dossiers of evidence it has been given about the horrific killings.

CFCFA is horrified to learn about what is happening to the dogs in Morocco ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2030 and is in full support OIPA campaign to stop this from happening,

The 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal, the Moroccan government has launched a horrific campaign to cull up to three million stray dogs,

This involves:

  • Poisoning: Dogs are poisoned with strychnine, either by direct injection or through contaminated food.

  • Mass Shootings: Government-mandated gunmen patrol day and night, shooting dogs indiscriminately. Many suffer slow, agonizing deaths, and their bodies are often left to decompose.

  • Barbaric Traps: Dogs are trapped in cruel clamps and thrown into trucks, destined for “fake dispensaries” where they are burned alive in incinerators or dumped in mass graves. Many are not dead when buried.

This violence is occurring in public, witnessed by children, citizens, and tourists. The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child has expressed concern about the harmful effects of children being exposed to such violence. On September 18th, 2023, they issued General Comment 26, stating: “Children must be protected from all forms of physical and psychological violence and from exposure to violence, such as domestic violence and violence inflicted on animals.”

Instead of working with organisations and the government to have a humane spay and neutering programme violence and killing is being used .
